How to fix a refrigerator that won't dispense water?

How to fix a refrigerator that won’t dispense water?
How to fix a refrigerator that won’t dispense water?

There are several reasons for your refrigerator’s water dispenser not to work properly. See if one of the following will solve the problem.

Make sure the water tank is filled (non-plumbed models)

Non-plumbed models dispense water from their tank. You need to fill the tank manually to get water from your appliance.

Check the water connections (plumbed models)

If your refrigerator is a plumbed-in model, an obstruction or break in the water connections might cause a decrease or failure in your fridge’s water-dispensing capacity. These vary depending on the model. Follow the instructions in your appliance’s user manual to see how and where the connections are. If you’re having trouble finding your manual, download it here using your product’s model number. Check that these connections are correctly in place and not obstructed.

Check for interruptions in the water supply

Plumbed-in refrigerators dispense water from the main water lines. Check that water is running through the taps in your house. Turn it on if necessary. If there is still no water coming from the taps, seek the help of a qualified plumber.

Release the air in the water line

The water dispenser also needs to have the trapped air in the water line removed when it is first connected or every time the water filter is replaced.

Place a large container below the water dispenser and start pressing and releasing the lever for 5-seconds intervals. Repeat until water begins to flow. Once water starts flowing, continue pressing and releasing the dispenser paddle until a total of 15 litres of water has been dispensed. This will flush the air from the filter and the water dispensing system, ensuring pure and fresh water for drinking.

Check the water pressure

Plumbed-in refrigerators need enough water pressure to be able to dispense water. Remove the water filter and see if your appliance can now dispense water. Consult your appliance’s user manual when removing the filter. If you’re having trouble finding your manual, download it here using your product’s model number.

Consider technical problems

If the problem continues, your refrigerator might have a technical problem. If you suspect that to be the case, contact an authorised service agent.
