Beko Respects the Globe, Is Respected Globally

Bolingbrook, Ill. (June 30, 2017) – Beko (, the #1 European freestanding appliance brand just introduced into the North American market, is known as a brand that respects the globe and is respected globally. In recognition of its outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through energy efficiency, the company was recently named the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year.

As part of its continuing commitment to the environment, Beko is a corporate sponsor of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon 2017 taking place in Denver, Colo., from October 5-15. The competition challenges the 14 participating college teams to design and build full-size, solar-powered houses. The winner is the team that best blends design excellence and smart energy production with innovation, market potential, and energy and water efficiency.

Beko is sponsoring four collegiate teams/homes, including:

  • Maryland (University of Maryland) – reACT is intended to serve as a seminal prototype for a “house as a kit of parts” design concept
  • Missouri S&T (Missouri University of Science and Technology) – SILO (Smart Innovative Living Oasis)
  • Northwestern (Northwestern University) – House targeting baby-boomer couple, close to retirement
  • UC Berkeley/Univ Denver (University of California at Berkeley and University of Denver) – RISE, a stackable solution for urban infill

The Solar Decathlon is also an intensive learning experience for consumers and homeowners as they experience the latest technologies and materials in energy-efficient design, clean energy technologies, smart home solutions, water conservation measures, electric vehicles, and sustainable buildings.

“Everything we do as a brand is centered around sustainability and innovation, and the EPA award is validation that we are moving in the right direction,” said Hasan Yardimci, president, Beko US, Inc. “It also is a warm welcome to the North American market, where we are committed to providing consumers with products that are both good for the globe and support their everyday needs.”

The EPA award recognizes Beko’s strong emphasis on energy efficiency and its participation in the ENERGY STAR® program, as reflected in the company’s 2016 product development, design, labeling, training and outreach initiatives.

The company has achieved the ENERGY STAR certification for over 90% of the major appliances in its Beko brand. According to the EPA, appliances with the ENERGY STAR label can help a consumer save $630 over a product’s lifetime.

Additional key accomplishments in energy efficiency by Beko include:

  • First to qualify as 2017 Most Efficient residential clothes dryer for Beko Heat Pump Dryers – based on at least 50 percent energy savings compared to other leading dryers
  • Participated in the Climate Action and Green Competitiveness event organized by the World Bank in Washington, D.C., to highlight the importance of global collaboration, continuous investments and innovation in the struggle against climate change
  • Received the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Award 2015 from the CDP-Carbon Disclosure Project

Beko Environmental Initiatives/Add Two

“Beko is profoundly committed to sustainability while developing innovative and energy-efficient products,” Yardimci, said. “Our invaluable partnership with ENERGY STAR is a perfect platform to raise awareness on energy-efficient business and consumption behaviors that protect our world.”

Beko US, Inc. was founded in June 2016 and recently opened a distribution center in Bolingbrook, Ill.

ENERGY STAR® is the simple choice for energy efficiency achievements. For more than 20 years, people across America have looked to EPA’s ENERGY STAR program for guidance on how to save energy, save money, and protect the environment. Behind each blue label is a product, building, or home that is independently certified to use less energy and cause fewer of the emissions that contribute to climate change. Today, ENERGY STAR is the most widely recognized symbol for energy efficiency in the world, helping families and businesses save $300 billion on utility bills, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by two billion metric tons since 1992.
