How to Clean Your Tumble Dryer: A Step-by-Step Guide

Keeping your tumble dryer clean is essential for maintaining its efficiency and prolonging

its lifespan. A well-maintained dryer ensures optimal performance, reduces drying times,

and prevents potential issues caused by lint buildup and other obstructions. Follow these

steps to clean your tumble dryer effectively.

Step 1: Check for the Filter Cleaning Warning Symbol

Before you begin, check the dryer’s display panel to see if the filter cleaning warning

symbol is illuminated. This symbol indicates that the lint filters need cleaning.

Step 2: Clean the Lint Filters

● Open the dryer door and remove the lint filters.

● Separate the two-part filter and use a damp cloth or a vacuum cleaner to clean

any lint and fibers from both filters.

● For a thorough cleaning, rinse both filters under running water, ensuring that you

clean them in the reverse direction of the fiber accumulation. This helps to

dislodge any trapped lint.

● Dry both filters completely before reinserting them into the dryer.

● Once dry, reassemble the two-part filter and place it back into the dryer.

Step 3: Clean the Dryer’s Door Gasket

● Use a non-abrasive detergent and a soft sponge or cloth to clean the door gasket.

The gasket can accumulate lint and debris, which can affect the door’s seal over

time.

● Gently clean the gasket with a damp sponge, ensuring all dirt is removed.

Step 4: Empty the Water Tank

● If your dryer has a water tank, remove and empty it after every cycle. This prevents

water buildup, which can reduce the dryer’s efficiency.

Step 5: Clean the Drying Sensor

● The drying sensor helps your machine determine when clothes are dry, but if it’s

dirty, it can affect drying performance and increase drying times.

● Wipe the metal surfaces of the drying sensor with a soft cloth once every 3

months to keep it clean.

Step 6: Clean the Filter Drawer

● Press the kick plate button to open the kick plate.

● Inside the kick plate, you’ll find the filter drawer. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean

any lint or debris from the inside of the drawer.

● After cleaning, place the sponge filter back into the drawer and close the filter

drawer.

Step 7: Clean the Condenser

● If your dryer has a condenser, cleaning it is crucial for maintaining drying efficiency.

A dirty condenser can lead to longer drying times and increased energy

consumption.

● To clean the condenser, press the kick plate button again to open the kick plate.

Turn the 2 latches on the condenser to unlock it, and carefully remove the

condenser
from its housing.

● Rinse the surface and fins of the condenser under tap water, preferably using

pressurized water to remove any dirt or lint buildup.

● Once the condenser is clean, place it back into its housing and lock it in place by

turning the latches back to their original position.

Step 8: Clean the Evaporator Fins

● Using a soft brush or vacuum cleaner, gently clean the fins of the evaporator by

brushing them upwards and downwards. This removes any lint or dirt stuck

between the fins and ensures the dryer runs efficiently.

Step 9: Final Check

● After cleaning, ensure all components, such as the lint filter, water tank, drying

sensor, and condenser, are reinstalled correctly.

● If the cleaning warning symbol was illuminated on the display, it should now turn

off, indicating that the machine is ready for use.Regularly cleaning your tumble

dryer ensures optimal performance, reduces energy consumption, and extends the

life of your appliance. By following these steps, you’ll keep your dryer running

smoothly and efficiently.
