When my refrigerator or frost-free appliance defrost, where does the water go?

The melted water when your appliance auto-defrosts goes into a water collection point at the rear of your appliance that sits above the compressor. As the compressor gets warm during everyday usage the resultant moisture evaporates.

The water collected during defrosting goes to a drain pan close to the compressor. The compressor warms up while your appliance is running, and this heat evaporates the water in the drain pan.
