Tumble Dryer Not Drying? Here’s What to Check
If your tumble dryer isn’t drying clothes effectively, several factors may be at play. Follow
these steps to troubleshoot and fix common issues.
1. Maximize Spin Level in the Washing Machine
Ensure that the washing machine has used the maximum spin level suitable for the fabric
type before transferring the load to the dryer. The less water in the clothes, the faster they
will dry.
2. Choose the Right Drying Program
Always select a program that matches the fabric type. Using an inappropriate program can
lead to inefficient drying. For example, cotton fabrics need different settings than synthetic
ones.
3. Avoid Tangled Clothes
Do not put tangled clothes in the dryer as a bulk load. Tangled clothes block airflow and
lead to poor drying results.
4. Avoid Underloading and Overloading
● Underloading: Loading only a few pieces or a single item can result in the drying
sensor not detecting moisture correctly, causing the dryer to run ineffectively.
● Overloading: Overloading the dryer will reduce airflow, impact drying performance,
and result in prolonged drying time.
5. Don’t Add Wet Clothes Mid-Cycle
Adding wet clothes during the drying cycle can confuse the drying sensor and affect the
drying time of the entire load.
6. Clean the Lint Filter
A dirty lint filter can drastically reduce drying performance and increase energy
consumption. Always check the filter cleaning warning symbol on the display before
starting a cycle.
How to Clean the Lint Filter:
1. Open the dryer door.
2. Remove the inner and outer filters located inside the door.
3. Clean both filters with a damp cloth or vacuum cleaner to remove lint.
4. Wash the filters under running water in the reverse direction of fiber buildup, then
let them dry completely.
5. Place the two-part filter back together and insert it back into its place.
7. Clean the Drying Sensor
A dirty drying sensor can reduce the accuracy of the drying cycle, leading to longer drying
times.
How to Clean the Drying Sensor:
1. Open the dryer door and locate the sensor behind the lint filter.
2. Wait for the dryer to cool down before cleaning.
3. Wipe the metal surfaces of the drying sensor with a soft cloth.
4. Clean the sensor once every 3 months to ensure accuracy.
8. Clean the Evaporator Filter
A clogged evaporator filter can significantly reduce drying performance and increase
energy consumption. Look for the cleaning reminder symbol on the display, which lights up
every 3 cycles.
How to Clean the Evaporator Filter:
1. Press the kick plate button to open the kick plate.
2. Remove the filter drawer by pressing the red button and take out the sponge
evaporator filter.
3. Wash the sponge filter under running water, dry it, and place it back in the drawer.
4. Close the filter drawer securely.
9. Clean the Evaporator (Every 6 Months)
If the evaporator is dirty, the dryer may take longer to dry clothes, and energy consumption
will increase. The cleaning reminder symbol will light up when it’s time to clean the
evaporator.
How to Clean the Evaporator:
1. Press the kick plate button to open the kick plate.
2. Turn the three latches to unlock and remove the evaporator cover.
3. Use a soft brush to gently clean the fins of the evaporator, brushing upwards and
downwards.
4. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove any debris from the fins.
5. Replace the cover and turn the latches to lock it securely.
By following these steps, you can resolve most common issues that prevent your tumble
dryer from drying clothes effectively. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to
keep your dryer working efficiently.
