How to fix an air conditioner that’s not cooling?

How to fix an air conditioner that’s not cooling?
How to fix an air conditioner that’s not cooling?

There are several reasons for your air conditioner not to cool at all or as well as it used to. Please see if one of the following will solve the problem.

Make sure the appliance is installed properly

Your air conditioner should be installed by authorised service agents. If the installation or the connections between the units are not done appropriately, your air conditioner may not work correctly.

Make sure the appliance is installed in an appropriate location

Your air conditioner’s performance will be affected if there’s a nearby heat source. Avoid installing your air conditioner close to appliances that generate heat like ovens or hobs.

Make sure your air conditioner’s cooling power is appropriate for the room size

Your air conditioner might be installed in a room bigger than the space it can handle. Air conditioners have different BTU values, which essentially determines the cooling capacity of the appliance. Check the specifications of your model and compare it to the room it is installed in. You may need to replace or relocate your unit.

Check the temperature setting

For your air conditioner to blow cool air, the temperature needs to be set at a temperature that’s lower than the current room temperature. Check the set temperature and lower it if you want to have cooler air.

See if the filters are dirty or clogged

The air filters should be checked and cleaned every 3 months or whenever there’s a drop in performance. If the air filters are dirty or clogged, the cool air produced by your air conditioner won’t circulate properly throughout the room. To clean the filters, consult your user manual as each model may have different instructions. If you’re having trouble finding your manual, download it here using your product’s model number. You can also contact an authorized service agent to get your evaporator and condenser coils cleaned.

See if the evaporator or the condenser coils are dirty or clogged

Dirt build-up in the evaporator and condenser coils leads to a drop in your air conditioner’s performance. To clean the filters, consult your user manual as each model may have different instructions. If you’re having trouble finding your manual, download it here using your product’s model number. You can also contact an authorized service agent to get your evaporator and condenser coils cleaned.

Check the air inlet and outlet vents for obstructions

Your air conditioner takes air through the inlet vents and releases it via the outlet vents. Any obstruction (like curtains, household items, etc.) or dirt build-up inside the vents may be restricting this airflow. Check the vents and clean them if necessary. If your air conditioner has an outdoor unit, you will also need to check its vents.

Make sure no air is escaping the room

The air flow inside the room needs to be restricted for your air conditioner to run properly. Check nearby windows, doors, and ventilation points. Close them so that the cold air won’t escape the room.

Consider if the room temperature is too high

Cooling the air may take some time, especially in hot and humid weather. On such days, allow your air conditioner some time to cool down the air in the room. Beko air conditioners have a function called the Jet Mode which allows to cool the air more quickly.

See if the Fan Mode is active

If Fan Mode is selected, air will blow from your appliance without being cooled or heated. Switch the operation mode to cooling.

Consider if your air conditioner’s refrigerant might be running low or depleted

There are might lack of refrigerant in the compressor. In this case, contact an Authorized Service Agent to get your compressor checked and refilled if necessary.

Consider technical problems

If the problem continues, your air conditioner might have a technical problem. If you suspect this to be the case, contact an Authorised Service Agent.
