How to Load a Tumble Dryer to Prevent Drying Problems

Loading your tumble dryer correctly can prevent drying issues, save energy, and prolong

the life of your clothes. Follow these simple steps to get the best results:

1. Use the Maximum Spin Level of Your Washing Machine

Before transferring clothes from the washing machine to the dryer, make sure the washing

machine has spun the clothes at the maximum spin level suitable for the fabric. This

removes excess water, helping the dryer work more efficiently and preventing long drying

times.

2. Check Care Labels

Always check the care labels of your clothes to ensure they are suitable for tumble drying.

The care label will indicate if the clothes can be safely dried in a tumble dryer and what

settings to use.

3. Select the Right Program

Choose a drying program compatible with the fabric type of your clothes. Many dryers offer

settings for cotton, synthetics, and delicates. Use a program that matches the fabric type

to avoid overheating and shrinkage.

4. Untangle Clothes Before Loading

Tangled clothes can cause uneven drying and prolong the cycle. Before placing clothes in

the dryer, untangle them to allow air to circulate properly.

5. Turn Clothes Inside Out

Turning your clothes inside out helps protect the outer fabric from color fading and

reduces the risk of zippers, buttons, or trims making clinking sounds against the drum.

6. Do Not Underload the Dryer

Underloading the dryer can result in poor drying performance. When there isn’t enough

clothing in the drum, clothes may not tumble efficiently, leading to uneven drying.

7. Avoid Overloading the Dryer

Overloading can severely affect the dryer’s performance and result in longer drying times.

Clothes need space to tumble freely; otherwise, they may come out damp.

8. Do Not Add Wet Clothes Mid-Cycle

Adding wet clothes during a drying cycle can disrupt the drying process and result in

unevenly dried clothes. Avoid opening the dryer mid-cycle.

By following these steps, you’ll optimize your dryer’s performance, ensuring that your

clothes dry efficiently and without damage.
